4 Years Under Sheriff Haas' Leadership
2003 Commitments 2003 - 2007 Term Accomplishments
- Protect our community
- Patrols were restructured to include the entire County with an emphasis on all neighborhoods and businesses. Our narcotics officer works closely with our field deputies and investigators.
- Prepare our law enforcement officers to meet new and difficult challenges
- Dispatchers and Deputies have been provided access to many educational opportunities. These include: Emergency Medical Dispatch School, Incident Command, Hostage Negotiation, Suicide Prevention, Advanced Courtroom Security, Crime Scene Investigation, to name a few. Advanced Training is offered and encouraged.
- Design and implement a Policy and Procedure manual
- A policy and procedure manual, modeled after the State standard, was issued to all Sheriff's Office personnel.
- Request additional State Troopers for traffic enforcement allowing deputies to perform regular duties
- After discussions with the Colonel of the Virginia State Police, the vacant trooper positions were filled. Due to funding issues, no additional positions were granted.
- Continue cooperative relationship with officials of Greene County, neighboring counties and the State of Virginia
- The Sheriff's Office has a productive working relationship with law enforcement in all surrounding jurisdictions as well as with our local and state governments.
- Apply for membership in the Blue Ridge Narcotics Task Force
- Our application for membership in the Narcotics Task Force was accepted in 2003 and we now have a deputy assigned full time.
- Revenue from traffic enforcement fines generated by the Sheriff's Office will go directly to the Greene County Treasury
- All revenue from traffic enforcement goes to the Greene County Treasurers Office unless otherwise mandated by law.
- Aggressively seek Federal and State grants to support our law enforcement and crime prevention efforts.
- We are constantly searching for realistic grant opportunities. Examples of our success in securing grant funding reflect in the following programs: School Resource Officer, Communications and Command Trailer, Communications equipment, D.U.I. grant, and Triad.
- Reunite the County E911 and Sheriff's Office Dispatch Centers
- The Greene County E911 and Sheriff's Office Dispatch Center have been reunited, providing a more efficient and cost effective resource.
- Seek outside sources of revenue to add an additional School Resource Officer, whose duties will include youth program instruction
- A second School Resource Officer has been obtained through grant funding. Both are very involved with students and several programs have been implemented. These include: Eddie Eagle gun safety program (grades K-3), YOVASO (Youth of Virginia Speak Out), Class Action - Gang Reduction, and classes to prevent driving incidents involving drugs and alcohol.
- Sheriff's Office will be accountable financially insuring that resources are used effectively and efficiently
- The Sheriff's Office staff prepares the budget carefully and accurately while working closely with the County Finance Director. Whenever possible, grants are used.
