    MISSION

    The Greene County Victim/Witness Assistance Program is funded by the County of Greene and by a grant provided by the Department of Criminal Justices Services; and is operated by and located in the Greene County Sheriff’s Office. This program helps to ensure that crime victims and witnesses receive fair and compassionate treatment while understanding their rights in the Criminal Justice System.

    Services

    The Greene County Victim Witness Assistance Program works with the Department of Criminal Justice Services and the Victims of Crime Act to provide the following services to victims and witnesses of criminal offenses in Greene County:

    • Assistance with Emergency, Preliminary, and Final Protective Orders
    • Advance Notification Assistance for Court Hearings
    • Case Status Updates
    • Separate Waiting Areas for Court
    • Financial Assistance (Restitution/Virginia Victim’s Fund/Travel Compensation)
    • Custody Status of Prisoner/Offender
    • Scheduling Victim/Witness Meetings with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office
    • Courtroom Escort
    • Interpreter Assistance for English as a Second Language and the Hearing-Impaired
